Media spokesperson of the SLFP, Weerakumara Dissanayake said; Our Central Working Committee and the electoral organizers had a common idea about the symbol of the flower bud. They thought that if the symbol was changed they could have carried out a good voting business in secret. That is what they want. More than liking or disliking the symbol, they think that changing the symbol would be beneficial to Gotabaya Rajapaksa.Media spokesperson of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Dallas Alahapperuma says;
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party presented us with a memorandum of understanding. It was a bill. This is the MoU. There are 20 proposals. The SLPP unanimously agreed to accept all 20 proposals. This is the MoU presented to candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa. There are 17 sentences. They have informed that Gotabaya Rajapaksa has agreed to all 17 without any amendments. This is the new constitution of the alliance we have presented. They suggested that we use a symbol other than the flower bud for the alliance. They thought it was practical and we agreed. They suggested that we use the symbol of the chair. We agreed to that too. We informed that we hope they see how impractical it is to change the symbol. The Central Working Committee of the SLFP will convene in the evening. So we are hoping something positive will come out of this.
