Colombo (News 1st): Sri Lanka Tourism celebrated World Tourism Day 2019 with all of its key stakeholders in Colombo, Bentota, and Arugambay. Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority along with the other three key institutions of Sri Lanka Tourism under the guidance of the Ministry of Tourism Development, Wildlife & Christian Religious Affairs organized a special two-day program in Colombo and several other events to celebrate this year's World Tourism Day.
Speaking at the event Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Johanne Jayaratne said Sri Lanka offers a unique experience that appeals to a broad range of leisure tourists, business and incentive travellers. He added that they have been named top destination for 2019, Lonely Planet and Travel and Leisure named us top country to visit in 2019.
Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs John Amaratunga who was also present at the event noted that tourism is an entirely a private industry-oriented subject. He added that therefore the ministry should have the least to do with tourism and give it to the private sector but regulations will be monitored by the Ministry of Tourism and the boards that are being appointed.
