20-year-old drowns in flood waters

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A 20-year-old youth drowned while rowing in Kunu Ela in Kolonnawa using a home-made raft. The Police reported that the youth had been wading across the canal on a banana trunk last evening and suddenly drowned. The youth had been rescued by a bystander after about 20 minutes, at which point he was taken to the hospital. The rescuer noted that he was passing by and he was intrigued by people gathered. Following the revelation that a person had drowned and he volunteered to rescue him. The youth passed away around 6:00 pm last evening after he was admitted to the National Hospital. The youth has been identified to be Mohammed Yuar Mansoor Arshad, a 20-year-old resident of Sri Dharmarama Road in Dematagoda.
