COLOMBO (News 1st): The former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and IGP Pujith Jayasundara sent on compulsory leave, appeared before the Colombo Chief Magistrate today (July 22). They appeared before courts when the case filed by the CID was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne. The duo was accused of neglecting measures that could have been taken to avoid the 04/21 terror attack even when they possessed the necessary intelligence.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileep Peiris who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General presenting facts said that a statement was recorded from the first suspect of the case, Hemasiri Fernando on the 15th of this month. He further stated that while statements were recorded from the second suspect IGP Pujith Jayasundara on the 18th and the 19th that he was informed to appear before the CID today (July 22) as well. The Deputy Solicitor General also said that the findings from the statement recorded from the IGP today (July 22) will also be submitted at a later date.
The Magistrate who ordered the investigating officials to probe further into the matter ordered that the case be taken up once again on the 3rd of October.
