COLOMBO (News 1st): The Cabinet has decided to prepare a new draft bill prohibiting the possession and use of military uniforms or similar material by civilians.
The cabinet has arrived at this decision as approval granted to a proposal made by President Maithripala Sirisena. The government states that there is now a prevailing possibility where civilians often use clothing similar to that of military uniforms as a fashion trend. They further state that this could pose a threat to national security.
Further, the government explains that the rules and regulations under the No.06 of the military uniforms act of 1895 which limits the use of military uniforms for civilians is not timely.
