COLOMBO (News 1st) 8.55am (April 27) - According to the Police spokesperson a constable out on traffic duty had first received the information regarding a suspicious group of people in the Saindamarudu area. The Police and STF had then moved in to search the premises. As the forces were moving in persons inside the premises had opened fire and set-off several blasts.
Inspection of the house by the armed forces revealed the remains of 3 male bodies (believed to be suicide bombers), 3 female bodies and the remains of 6 children. Outside the house, the Police discovered the remains of 3 more male suspects (believed to be suicide bombers). A total of 15 bodies were recovered from the scene.
Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara noted that the armed forces did not suffer any injuries in the clashes and called on the general public not to be fooled by rumours. Police curfew is still in effect in the area.
COLOMBO (News 1st) - The police have recovered the remains of 4 persons, in the Saindamarudu area in Kalmunai, believed to be the remains of 4 suicide bombers.
According to the Police, investigations are continuing.
Meanwhile, a further 3 persons died in a shootout between security forces personnel in Sahindamaradu. The deceased have been identified as two attackers and a civilian,
Army spokesperson, Sumith Attapattu noted that 3 more persons suffered injuries in the attack.
