Battle of the Blues: Thomians dominate Day 1

Colombo (News 1st): On a day where 16 wickets fell at the SSC, the Thomians secured a narrow advantage over Royal college, Colombo as Day 1 of the 140th Battle of the Blues came to an end. Winning the toss Royal College chose to take first lease of the wicket. However, some fine blowing by Kalana Perera and Shannon Fernando completely baffled the boys from Reid Avenue. Royal college was bowled out for 158 runs in 48.3 overs. Perera ended up with 6 wickets while Fernando went through the rest. K Mishara scored 36 runs for Royal while Kavindu Pathirana chipped in with 35. The Thomians who commenced their first innings suffered an early scare losing 2 wickets just before Tea, however, they were able to consolidate thanks to some spirited batting by Ryan Fernando who hammered 60 and Yohan Perera who chipped in with 49. By stumps, S.Thomas' leveled the scored with just 6 wickets down.
