Colpetty drug bust : suspects detained and interrogated

Colombo (News1st): The Police Narcotics Bureau was granted permission by court to detain and question the suspects arrested for the possession of heroin in Colpetty. A stash of heroin valued over Rs. 1 Billion was discovered in the possession of the suspects arrested in a raid jointly conducted by the Police Special Task Force and the Police Narcotics Bureau yesterday (January 22). The total weight of the stock of heroin is 95 KG. Among the arrested suspects are two American National and three other foreign nationals. The police informed courts that a thorough investigation needs to be conducted into this incident. They added that therefore the suspects should be extensively questioned. Meanwhile, a person charged for smuggling heroin was convicted and sentenced to life in prison at the Colombo High court today (January 23). He is a 33-year-old resident of Kollonnawa. Police arrested him on the 25th of April 2013 for the possession of 50 grams of heroin.
