England wins 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka by 31 runs

Colombo (News1st): England won the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka by 31 runs through the Duckworth–Lewis method. The match was played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium today (October 13). Sri Lankan Skipper Dinesh Chandimal won the toss and elected to field first. Joe Root hammered 71 runs, recording his 29th ODI half-century while Eoin Morgan, the English skipper, scored 92 runs. At the end of their allotted 50 overs, the England team scored 278 for the loss of 9 wickets. Lasith Malinga's exceptional bowling got him 5 wickets in 10 overs. This is the 8th time Malinga took 5 wickets in an ODI. Sri Lanka chasing a target of 279 saw the first four wickets falling when the scoreboard was at 31. Upul Tharanga was out for a duck while Dinesh Chandimal scored 6 runs. Kusal Janith scored 30 runs Dananjaya De Silva and Thisara Perera managed to put on a  strong partnership for the 6th wicket when the rain interrupted the play. The Sri Lankan team had scored 140 runs for the loss of 5 wickets at the end of 29 overs. Dhananjaya Silva was unbeaten at the wicket at 36 and Thisara Perera scored 44.
