COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha stated that the International Cricket Council has given the Sri Lanka Cricket Board time till the 9th of February 2019, to conduct it's elections.
Speaking to Sports1st following a meeting with the ICC, Minister Musthapaha stated that the ICC had agreed with some of his suggestions presented on the Elections Committee that would conduct this election. The sports minister also continued to say that it was decided that three retired judges, one official with experience in conducting elections and three retired officials be appointed to this committee.
Furthermore, the Minister continued that it was also suggested that an appeal process be introduced in the acceptance and rejection of nomination lists.
The ICC had called on the Minister to appoint 4 more independent officials to run Sri Lanka Cricket, in addition to the secretary of the Ministry of Sports who is functioning as the competent authority of Sri Lanka Cricket, until the elections are held.
It is most suitable to change the constitution of Sri Lanka Cricket prior to the election being held. Is it not in the interest of everyone concerned to amend the Sports Act to ensure that Sport and Politics are kept separate? This will be the best way to ensure success in the future.
