Spill gates opened following heavy showers

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The spill gates of the Laxapana, Upper Kothmale, Canyon, Norton Bridge and Polgolla Reservoirs have been opened following heavy showers in the area. The Disaster Management Center (DMC) in Nuwara Eliya stated three spill gates of the Upper Kotmale reservoir and one spill gate of the Lakshapana reservoir have been opened. Meanwhile, the DMC office in Kandy said stated two spill gates of the Polgolla reservoir have been opened by three feet each due to heavy showers. According to the weather advisory issued by the Meteorological Department, showers of about 100mm are expected in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces. The department adds strong winds could also be experienced in the area.
