Couple arrested with 70,000 narcotic pills remanded

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The couple arrested in Settikulam, Vavuniya for possession of over 70,000 narcotic pills has been remanded until the 24th of this month. They were remanded after been produced before the Vavuniya Magistrates' court. According to the police the drugs worth Rs. 21 million were sent from Dubai to Sri Lanka via Chennai. The suspects aged 18 and 24 have been identified as residents of Kelaniya and Matale. The vehicle that transported the drugs has also been seized by the police. Makandaure Madush who has been linked to a number of organized crimes is believed to be behind the smuggling operation.
