Vijitha Herath Meets UN Chief Guterres; Briefs on Sri Lanka’s Transformation

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath, held a cordial and constructive meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81).

During the discussion, Minister Herath briefed the UN Secretary-General on Sri Lanka’s progress in economic recovery, ongoing reform efforts and measures being undertaken to advance national reconciliation.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on the need for reforms to the international financial architecture, particularly in support of developing countries facing economic and development challenges.

Minister Herath and Secretary-General Guterres further discussed Sri Lanka’s contributions to United Nations peacekeeping operations, with Colombo continuing to play an active role in supporting international peace and security through its long-standing participation in UN missions.
