COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Meteorology says atmospheric conditions favourable for thundershowers may exist at several places in many parts of the island during the evening hours today (13).

The MET Department said heavy showers of around 100 mm could be expected in some areas of the North Central, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and North Western provinces.

Several spells of rain may also occur in the Western Province and in the Galle and Matara districts during the morning hours.

The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to take necessary precautions to minimise the risks posed by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thundershowers.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology has issued a heat advisory warning that temperatures in several areas remain at levels that require attention today.

Several areas in the North Central and Eastern provinces, as well as the Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Kurunegala, Monaragala and Hambantota districts, are among the affected areas.

During the day, temperatures in these areas are expected to remain at levels requiring attention tomorrow.

Accordingly, the Department of Meteorology has advised the public to take necessary precautions.
