COLOMBO (News 1st) - Steps have been taken to ensure the prompt issuance of vehicle number plates.
Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, retired Air Vice Marshal Thushara Fernando, said the institution responsible for manufacturing vehicle number plates has been instructed to commence production at another location as well.
Speaking to News 1st, Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Retired Air Vice Marshal Thushara Fernando provided further details regarding the measures being taken to speed up the process.
According to the Commissioner General, number plates for vehicles registered after March this year are being manufactured under a new contract. Accordingly, number plates for vehicles registered between June and August this year are expected to be distributed within the coming month.
The production of number plates for vehicles registered in 2025 has been handed over to another company, which has also been instructed to commence manufacturing at another location.
The Commissioner General stated that the company has been given a period of six months to clear the backlog of number plates for these vehicles.
