Sri Lanka CERT Warns of New 'Zero-Click' Attack Targeting WhatsApp Accounts of Iphone Users

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) has revealed information about a new cyber attack targeting the WhatsApp accounts of iPhone users. 

According to SLCERT, the attack, known as 'Zero-Click,' exploits security vulnerabilities in iPhones running iOS 16 mobile operating system. 

The SLCERT said many users who have fallen victim to the attack have already lodged complaints, emphasizing that the 'Zero-Click' WhatsApp security breach is currently spreading among users in Sri Lanka.

What Security Measures Can Be Taken to Prevent the Attack?

Senior Information Security Engineer at SLCERT, Charuka Damunupola, explained the security measures that should be taken to prevent such attacks.

According to Damunupola, the 'Zero-Click' attack can target users directly without requiring security verification measures, such as a one-time password (OTP) or a security link.

He urged users to keep their devices and softwares updated with the latest security patches and to ensure that two-step verification is enabled on their WhatsApp accounts.
