Repairs to Damaged Negombo Prison to Begin Next Week

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Prisons is set to begin repairs to property at the Negombo Prison that was damaged during unrest among inmates, with support from the Sri Lanka Air Force.

The department said the assessment of the damage caused to the prison’s property is currently nearing completion.

Meanwhile, renovation work at the former Bogambara Prison, which has been officially designated as a prison again through a Gazette notification, has reached its final stage.

The Department of Prisons expects to begin transferring inmates to the facility as early as next week.
