COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police said that the driver of the cab involved in the fatal accident in Meegoda, which claimed six lives, is due to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court today.
The suspect, a 42-year-old resident of Piliyandala, was arrested in connection with the incident.
Police stated that he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
The tragic incident occurred last night when a cab crashed into a Dansala in Meegoda, killing six people and injuring seven others.
Police said the deceased include a 15-year-old girl, two women, and three men.
Police said the victims included a married couple, the husband's mother, and two siblings from the same family.
The deceased were residents of Thunnana in Hanwella, Piliyandala, and Avissawella.
Seven others who sustained injuries in the crash are currently receiving treatment at Homagama Base Hospital.
Following the accident, the driver fled the scene.
However, police launched an immediate pursuit and apprehended the suspect at gunpoint in Godagama.
The arrest was made shortly after the incident.
