COLOMBO (News 1st) - Seven Sri Lankan nationals who were detained and held in custody in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, have been deported to Sri Lanka.
The group arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake last night on a special flight.
They were reportedly held in custody over allegations of keeping images and video footage of drones and missiles used in Middle Eastern conflicts on their mobile phones, as well as making comments on social media platforms.
The individuals are residents of Ambalangoda, Marapana, Borella, Polonnaruwa, and Wattala under the ages between 23 and 33 years.
Authorities have now launched investigations to determine whether they have any links to organized crime activities or drug trafficking networks within Sri Lanka.
