14 Chinese Nationals Arrested At BIA for Smuggling Cigarettes

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Fourteen Chinese Nationals have been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake, after being found in possession of a large stock of foreign-made cigarettes valued at Rs. 2.7 million.

The arrests were made by customs officials at BIA.

The suspects had arrived in Sri Lanka from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Customs officers discovered 691 cartons of cigarettes, containing 138,200 sticks of cigarettes made in China.

The stock of cigarettes were concealed inside 14 luggages.
