Two Remanded Over Wanawasala Train Derailment

COLOMBO (News 1st); Two suspects arrested in connection with the removal and purchase of railway track components, which caused a train derailment in Wanawasala, have been remanded until the May 29.

The order was issued after the suspects were produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate's Court No. 05 in Colombo. 

A suspect accused of removing lock bars and plates from the railway track was arrested yesterday (16)

Following his interrogation, police then arrested an individual who had purchased the stolen track components.

The derailment occurred early yesterday morning, involving a train traveling from Polgahawela to Kalutara South. 

The incident caused a train carriage to overturn, injuring 10 passengers.

The Railway Department said that train operations on the line are expected to be restored to normalcy by this afternoon. (17)
