COLOMBO (News 1st); The upcoming “Walk of Peace”, scheduled to unfold across Sri Lanka from April 21 to April 28, is fast emerging as one of the most spiritually significant and emotionally resonant events of the year, drawing attention both locally and internationally.
Rooted in faith, compassion, and coexistence, the walk is designed to carry a powerful message of peace across cities, villages, and hearts.
Adding a deeply moving and symbolic dimension to this journey is the confirmed participation of Aloka, the beloved and globally admired canine whose presence transcends language and nationality.
Aloka will travel to Sri Lanka to join the Walk of Peace, bringing with her a gentle reminder that the call for harmony and kindness is shared not only by humanity, but by all living beings.
Aloka’s journey itself reflects the ethos of the walk. As a certified service dog, she will travel seated alongside her handlers in the passenger cabin, rather than in the aircraft’s cargo hold, a rare and compassionate allowance that underscores dignity, trust, and respect.
The Walk of Peace will begin on April 21, following the arrival of the monks and participants in Sri Lanka. Their first destination will be the Attanagalla Raja Maha Viharaya, after which they will proceed to the Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, one of the most sacred sites in the Buddhist world.
Led by Most Venerable Pannakara Thero, the monks will carry with them a sapling from the Sacred Sri Maha Bodhi. This living symbol will accompany them throughout the pilgrimage, binding every step to Sri Lanka’s spiritual heritage.
From April 22, the walk will move steadily southward, passing through key towns and cities:
April 22 – Dambulla
April 23 – Matale
April 24 – Kandy
April 25 – Belligammana
April 26 – Tholangamuwa
April 27 – Yakkala
April 28 – Kelaniya to Independence Square, Colombo
The final walk from Kelaniya to Independence Square will mark a powerful culmination, a symbolic arrival at the nation’s most prominent civic space, where faith meets democracy and peace meets the future.
Throughout the journey, the Walk of Peace will blend reflection, dialogue, and silent unity, offering participants and observers alike a moment to pause, reconnect, and re-imagine a world rooted in compassion.
The Maharaja Media Network has been appointed as the Official Media and Coordination Partner.
As Aloka walks beside monks, devotees, and citizens, carrying no words yet speaking volumes, the Walk of Peace reminds us that peace is not proclaimed, it is walked, step by step, together.
The Walk of Peace in Sri Lanka does not stand alone. It is the continuation of a broader, deeply symbolic movement for peace that first took shape in the United States, where the same call for harmony, compassion, and coexistence was carried forward step by step.
In the United States, the Walk of Peace brought together participants from diverse backgrounds who walked not in protest, but in quiet conviction, carrying a message that peace begins with presence, patience, and shared humanity.
That journey laid the emotional and spiritual foundation for what is now unfolding in Sri Lanka, extending the same message across continents.
It was during this earlier walk that Aloka first came to embody the spirit of the movement, walking calmly, faithfully, and without division alongside people of different cultures and beliefs. The walk demonstrated that peace is not defined by slogans or borders, but by action and example.
