COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department for Registration of Persons (DRP) has announced that National Identity Cards (NICs) will be issued today under the one-day service for customers who were unable to obtain them recently due to a computer system breakdown.

Acting Commissioner General of Registration of Persons M.S.P. Suriyapperuma says that this special arrangement is specifically to those who visited the Suhurupaya head office in Battaramulla or provincial offices on March 23, 24, and 26, but could not receive their NICs.

Applicants are advised to bring all necessary documents to obtain their IDs today.

Normal operations for the one-day service will resume tomorrow at the Battaramulla head office and all provincial branches.

Normal services at all offices are scheduled to resume next Monday, April 6th.

Services such as NIC data verification for state/non-state institutions and English translations are currently operating on a limited basis.

The department encouraged using alternative methods for these requirements where possible.

The Acting Commissioner General assured that once the system is fully restored all departmental services will continue without interruption.
