COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced that the electricity tariff revision for the second quarter of 2026 will be released this afternoon.
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has submitted its proposals for the revision to the PUCSL.
According to the Commission, the CEB has requested a 13.56% increase in electricity tariffs for the period spanning April 1st to June 30th.
It is noted that the PUCSL previously decided not to revise electricity tariffs for the first quarter of 2026.
This decision was based on several key factors such as the failure to submit a formal proposal within the specified timeframe, Inaccuracies and defects identified in the initial proposal and the potential adverse economic impact of implementing a tariff change for a short duration within the quarter.
The Commission says that all necessary steps are now being taken to finalize the Q2 decision once the system is fully assessed.
