COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has planned to use the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport as an emergency operations airport, with discussions currently underway with several Middle Eastern airlines regarding its potential use.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority has assured that the country has sufficient aircraft fuel stocks until April 16.

Director General of Civil Aviation Dhaminda Rambukwella said that fuel supplies required for small aircraft used for domestic flights are also adequate for a period of three months.

He further stated that orders have already been placed for Jet A-1 fuel, required for commercial aircraft, as well as Avgas, which is used for domestic and small aircraft operations.

To ensure continuous monitoring and updating of data related to aircraft fuel reserves, a special committee has been appointed. The unit has been named the National Aircraft Fuel Coordination Unit.

The committee comprises representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, and all airline operators.

All activities related to aircraft fuel, including determining required quantities, maintaining reserve stocks, and placing future fuel orders, will be managed through this coordination unit, authorities said.
