COLOMBO (News 1st) - The chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, D.A. Rajakaruna, confirmed that fuel distribution under the new QR code system, combined with the odd–even vehicle number method, commence today.
Under this system, vehicles are eligible for fuel based on the last digit of their license plate.
If the last digit of a vehicle number is even (0, 2, 4, 6, 8), it can refuel on days with an even date. Similarly, vehicles with an odd last digit (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) can receive fuel on days with an odd date.
The CPC emphasized that presenting the QR code is mandatory under this system.
However, for today individuals who have not yet registered or downloaded a QR code, and who were previously unable to access fuel, will be allowed to refuel under the odd–even scheme.
Meanwhile, despite the new measures, queues were observed at fuel stations across the country today.
