COLOMBO (News 1st); The Cabinet has granted approval to repeal the Chief of Defence Staff Act No. 35 of 2009.
Approval to draft the repeal bill was first granted at the Cabinet meeting held on 24 February 2025.
The Attorney General has since given clearance to the draft bill prepared to abolish the Chief of Defence Staff Act.
Cabinet approval has also been granted for the proposal submitted by the President, in his capacity as Minister of Defence, to publish the draft repeal bill in the Government Gazette and subsequently present it to Parliament for approval.
