COLOMBO (News 1st) - Police Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F.U. Wootler revealed details regarding the progress of the "A Nation United" anti-narcotics program which was launched last year under the leadership of the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
These details were revealed at a media briefing held yesterday.
Police Spokesperson ASP F.U. Wootler said that significant progress has been made in the nationwide narcotics crackdown over the past four months.
Highlighting the scale of the operations, Wootler said 34,360 suspects were arrested for the possession of Heroin. 526.603 kg of Heroin were seized in total during these arrests.
38,423 suspects were arrested for the possession of ICE and a total of 1,419.121 kg of ICE were seized during these arrests.
3,548 kg of Cannabis was seized with 24,244 suspects.
Additionally, 900,000 Narcotic Pills/Capsules were confiscated.
In total, over 120,900 individuals have been taken into custody during the past four-months.
The police have initiated 146 investigations into illegal assets and secured 2,017 detention orders.
Regarding international cooperation, ASP Wootler noted that between 2024 and 2026, authorities successfully extradited 29 suspects via INTERPOL Red Notices, along with 13 additional suspects brought back without Red Notices.
Wootler emphasized that the Sri Lanka Police are currently working diligently to repatriate another 89 suspects who are subject to active Red Notices.
