COLOMBO (News1st): A special traffic plan is in effect around Independence Square in Colombo from early this morning due to the 78th National Independence Day celebrations.
Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F.U. Wootler, stated that access to several roads in the area will be restricted from 3:00 AM today until the conclusion of the ceremony.
Accordingly, Entry to Ananda Kumaraswamy Mawatha via the Horton Roundabout is restricted. Access from Library Lane to the Horton Roundabout is also restricted.
Vehicle movement is restricted from Dharmapala Mawatha and C.W.W. Kannangara Mawatha toward F.R. Senanayake Mawatha.
Movement is restricted from Independence Lane up to the Independence Roundabout.
Access from Stanley Wijayasundara Mawatha to Padanam Mawatha is closed.
Bauddhaloka Mawatha and the route leading to Torrington Junction are restricted.
He requested commuters to use alternative routes.
Accordingly, motorists traveling from Nanda Motors are advised to turn right at the Independence Roundabout onto Philip Gunawardane Mawatha, and then enter Bauddhaloka Mawatha via Stanley Thilakarathne Mawatha.
Motorists heading toward the Horton Roundabout from Bauddhaloka Mawatha are advised to use Wijerama Road.
Additionally, motorists traveling toward Thummulla are advised to enter from Cemetery Road, proceeding via Bullers Road (Baudhaloka Mawatha) through the Vidya-Wijerama Junction.
