COLOMBO (News 1st): The trade union action launched by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) is continuing for a second day today.

The GMOA says its members have withdrawn from five specific services while continuing with other essential duties.

According to our correspondents, despite the ongoing action, daily operations at several hospitals across the country, including the National Hospital in Colombo, are being carried out as usual.

The Executive Committee of the GMOA has decided on the following measures:

• Not to prescribe medicines that must be purchased from outside
• Not to recommend external laboratory tests
• Not to open new hospital units without approval from doctors
• Not to participate in health camps and clinics
• To withdraw from duties if a supporting officer is not available when examining a patient

The 48-hour trade union action was launched by the GMOA on Friday, January 23.
