COLOMBO (News 1st) -Issuing a statement, the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment said the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Marc-André Franche, reaffirmed that the UN will continue to support the Rebuilding Sri Lanka programme.
The Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Professor Upali Pannila, made this announcement during a meeting with him at the Ministry premises yesterday (23).
Minister Upali Pannila expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by the United Nations in post-disaster management and reconstruction, as well as for the support given to affected communities in restoring their lives and meeting nutritional needs following the cyclones.
Speaking at the event, Marc-André Franche reaffirmed the UN’s continued support for the Rebuilding Sri Lanka programme and commended the government for the steps taken to provide relief to affected people and restore damaged areas.
Extensive discussions were held on post-disaster management, relief efforts, and national reconstruction.
