Raids Intensified on Illicit Tendu Leaf Imports

COLOMBO (News1st): Raids are being intensified to seize stocks of tendu leaves, used in beedi manufacturing, which have been illegally imported into the country. 

Deputy Minister of Economic Development U.D. Nishantha Jayaweera stated that transport permits have now been made mandatory for the movement of tendu leaves used in beedi production.

The Deputy Minister further noted that instructions have been issued to all security forces to inspect and seize tendu leaves being transported illegally.
