COLOMBO (News1st): New liquor license fees have been increased effective from today, following a recently issued gazette notification.
The Department of Excise says that certain license fees have been increased by 100%.
The department also informed that it is now mandatory for license holders to maintain a security deposit.
Furthermore, The Department of Excise has taken steps to introduce a new industry entry fee for entrepreneurs entering the liquor industry.
The department noted that license fees for liquor manufacturers have also been increased.
Accordingly, manufacturers are required to maintain a security deposit of approximately Rs. 100 million.
The Department of Excise further says that payments for the revised liquor license fees must be made starting today.
These amendments were implemented by the department following a proposal recently presented to Parliament by the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
