COLOMBO (News 1st); A former prison superintendent has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of six inmates at Kalutara Prison in 2009.
The arrest was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following directives from the Attorney General.
The suspect, a 57-year-old resident of Waskaduwa, was taken into custody during a special operation.
The incident, which occurred on April 15, 2009, shocked the nation when six prisoners were gunned down inside the high-security facility.
Four others sustained severe injuries during the shooting.
Authorities have confirmed that further investigations are underway to uncover the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation.
