COLOMBO (News 1st) - Former Minister Douglas Devananda who was taken into custody is scheduled to be produced before the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court today.
He was arrested yesterday by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department when he appeared before the CID to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing investigation.
The arrest is linked to an inquiry into the discovery of a pistol, which had been legally issued to him by the Army, and was found concealed in a forested area near a culvert in Weliweriya in 2019.
The investigation was initiated based on statements made by an organised criminal.
The Criminal Investigation Department says further investigations are underway.
