Printing Commences for Delayed Driving Licenses

COLOMBO (News 1st): Printing has commenced for driving licenses that could not be issued previously due to a shortage of cards required for production.

Temporary driving permits were being issued in place of the permanent licenses.

Accordingly, nearly 350,000 permanent driving licenses are to be printed.

Commissioner General for Motor Traffic, Kamal Amarasinghe stated that the printing of permanent driving licenses is being carried out at three locations:

The main center at the Department of Motor Traffic in Werahera.

and Additional centers in Hambantota and Anuradhapura. 

Amarasinghe said that they expect to issue nearly 6,000 driving licenses daily.

Of these, 1,500 will be issued under the one-day service.

The number of licenses expected to be issued daily under the normal service is 4,500.

The Commissioner General further said that the backlog of driving licenses is expected to be cleared within the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, one million driving license cards are scheduled to be imported into the country soon.
