COLOMBO (News 1st): A committee has been appointed to investigate raw material issues in the construction sector and to submit recommendations.
This decision was made during a discussion attended by representatives from 19 relevant institutions within the sector.
The discussion was also attended by Deputy Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply Susil Ranasinghe , Minister of Industries Sunil Hadunnetti, Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakodi, All Secretaries from the three respective Ministries.
Deputy Minister Ranasinghe noted that numerous issues have emerged in the construction sector, particularly concerning the supply of raw materials. Specifically, problems have been identified regarding the sourcing locations and the supply chain of raw materials.
Following the meeting, the Deputy Minister announced that it was agreed to appoint a technical committee. The committee is tasked with submitting a report within two weeks. The report is expected to identify the specific issues in the supply chain and propose solutions.
