Eco-Friendly Bags to Replace Polythene, says Minister of Environment

COLOMBO (News 1st);The Ministry of Environment has begun producing environmentally friendly bags to replace low-density polyethylene (LDPE) bags.

Minister of Environment, Dr. Dammika Patabendi, said that the initiative aims to support small-scale entrepreneurs by providing them with market opportunities for their products.

He further noted that the decision to levy charges on LDPE bags was introduced to curb polythene waste in the environment, while the program is being carried out successfully.
