COLOMBO (News 1st); A sweeping investigation into organized crime has begun to unravel what could be one of the most explosive political scandals in recent memory.
Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has confirmed that political connections to criminal gangs are being systematically exposed.
Speaking at a media briefing, Dr. Jayatissa emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that the investigation is being conducted with precision and without panic.
“This is not a routine operation. It’s not a game. The criminal network has extended across a significant area, and the investigation is revealing links to certain security agencies and political mechanisms,” he said.
Questions have emerged regarding the possible involvement of high-ranking police officers, particularly in the Southern Province.
A journalist pointed out the rapid rise of a former police media spokesman, who was promoted from Superintendent of Police (SP) to Senior DIG within just four years.
In response, Minister Jayatissa acknowledged that the investigation has already led to the arrest of individuals connected to various state institutions.
“Based on those taken into custody and the manner in which some are being interrogated under Detention Orders, it’s clear that individuals linked to the police, prison system, and other government services are being apprehended. The law applies equally to everyone—whether they are in the police, intelligence services, or prison administration,” he said.
