COLOMBO (News 1st); A Fundamental Rights petition challenging the appointment of High Court Judge Ranga Dissanayake as the new Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) was withdrawn before the Supreme Court.

The petition sought a declaration that the recommendation made by the Constitutional Council to the President, and the subsequent appointment of Justice Dissanayake, was invalid.

The petitioners requested the court to rule the appointment null and void.

The case was filed by a group including Ven. Wewalduwe Gnanaprabha Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Udawalawa Soma Vihara, and was taken up before a three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, Justice Mahinda Samayawardhana, and Justice Sampath Abayakoon.

During the hearing, the petitioners formally requested permission to withdraw the application. After considering the request, the bench granted leave to withdraw, thereby rendering the petition inactive.
