COLOMBO (News 1st); An intelligence officer attached to the Sri Lanka Air Force has been arrested while attempting to smuggle a stock of gold biscuits valued at approximately Rs. 20 million into the country.
The arrest was made during a special operation conducted by the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
Authorities discovered 40 gold biscuits, each 24-carat, concealed around the suspect’s waist. The suspect, aged 37, has served in the Air Force for 17 years.
He was taken into custody while allegedly attempting to illegally bring the gold into the country.
