COLOMBO(News 1st); The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported that 17 more Sri Lankans are being forcibly employed in cybercrime operations in Myanmar.

According to the ministry, the individuals had traveled on tourist visas but were later coerced into working in cybercrime activities.

The area where they are held, near the Thailand-Myanmar border, is labeled on Google Maps as a "Cyber Criminal Area."

This region, located about 25 kilometers from the city of Myawaddy in Myanmar, is fully controlled by a terrorist group.

Previously, a group of Sri Lankans who were similarly forced into cybercrime in the same area were rescued through intensive efforts.

Young Sri Lankan men and women had traveled abroad using tourist visas with hopes of securing jobs in the IT sector.
