Three Dead, 36 Injured in Road Accidents Across Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A series of road accidents across several parts of the country in the past few hours have left three people dead and at least 36 others injured.

One person died and 13 were injured after a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus collided with the rear of a tipper truck this morning in Weliara along the Colombo-Wellawaya road.

Among the injured are 12 bus passengers and the truck driver.

In a separate incident, a motorcyclist was killed and another person injured following a collision with a bus in Warapalana along the Yakkala-Kirindiwela road.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian succumbed to injuries after being hit by a vehicle near the 2nd kilometer post on the Eravur-Punnakuda road. 

He died after being admitted to the Batticaloa Hospital, and his identity has not yet been confirmed.

Additionally, 23 people were injured when a bus veered off the road and overturned in Toppass, Nuwara Eliya. 

Police said the injured are reported to be residents from Kiriwawula in Kurunegala.
