COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has filed an anticipatory bail application with the Colombo Magistrate's Court, seeking release before being taken into custody by the Bribery Commission.

This request is related to the importation of substandard organic fertilizer during the previous government.

During today's hearing, Aluthgamage's legal representatives stated that President's Counsel Kalinga Indratissa is expected to present arguments regarding the anticipatory bail application. Consequently, the lawyers requested the court to schedule the hearing for Friday.

Magistrate Tanuja Lakmalani noted that due to the high number of cases scheduled for tomorrow and Friday, the court will hear arguments related to this case next Monday.

The Magistrate also issued notices to the Bribery Commission to present their arguments on the matter.

The matter is scheduled to be heard again on May 19.
