COLOMBO (News 1st); US President Donald Trump has embarked on a Middle East tour, beginning with a grand arrival in Saudi Arabia. This marks the first stop of a three-day visit that will also include Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
President Trump, aboard Air Force One, was escorted into Riyadh by fighter jets.
Air Force One touched down at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh shortly before 10 AM (07:00 GMT).
Upon arrival, President Trump was warmly greeted by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman amidst the ceremonial sounds of a 21-gun salute and trumpets. The two leaders proceeded to the Royal Court, where a procession of dignitaries, officials, and business figures eagerly awaited their turn to shake hands with the US president.
This tour marks the first major foreign visit of President Trump's second term, with a key focus on securing substantial investments for the US economy. Speculations are rife about a potential $100 billion (£75.7 billion) arms deal being discussed during the visit.
President Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have previously met during the G20 summit held in Japan in 2019, further strengthening their diplomatic ties.
