COLOMBO (News 1st); An American national who arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake with a stock of “Kush” narcotics worth Rs. 230 million was arrested yesterday by officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Unit.
The suspect was apprehended while attempting to exit the airport through the Red Channel designated for business travelers at the arrival terminal.
The 31-year-old suspect is reportedly employed at a real estate company in the United States.
According to our News 1st correspondent, he arrived at the Katunayake BIA yesterday morning at 10:15 AM via SriLankan Airlines flight UL-403 from Bangkok, Thailand.
The 23 kilograms of Kush were concealed in the travel bag he was carrying.
Director General of Customs Sarath Nonis and Customs Media Spokesperson Seevali Arukgoda also arrived at the airport, to observe the operation.
The Customs Media Spokesperson stated that there is a growing trend of attempting to smuggle narcotics such as Kush, Hashish, and Cocaine into Sri Lanka.
