CID to Probe Death of Young Man in Welikada Police Custody

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to launch an immediate investigation into the death of a 26-year-old youth while in police custody at the Welikada Police Station.

The deceased was identified as a resident of Pahalagedara, Meegahakivula.

The Acting IGP has instructed that an interim report on the investigation be submitted to him before the 25th of this month.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer confirmed that a separate inquiry is also being conducted under the supervision of an Assistant Superintendent of Police in relation to the incident.
