COLOMBO (News 1st); The Election Commission has announced the maximum expenditure limits for each local government institution in preparation for the upcoming local government elections.
These limits have been established in accordance with the Regulation of Election Expenditure Act, No. 3 of 2023.
According to the new regulations, the minimum amount that can be spent per voter is set at Rs. 74, while the maximum amount is capped at Rs. 160.
The allocation of funds for each candidate is divided as follows: 50% for candidates contesting at the electoral level, 30% for candidates contesting at the local government institution level, and the remaining 20% distributed among candidates on the second list.
The Election Commission has clarified that the minimum expenditure amount can be increased based on the number of registered voters in the relevant local government and ward institutions.
