COLOMBO (News 1st); Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and ensuring the continuity of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.

Speaking at the Invest Sri Lanka Capital Market Forum 2025 in Colombo, Dr. Suriyapperuma highlighted the importance of professionalism in policy-making and the need to prioritize the country's future over political gains.

"As a nation, there is no way we can go back to where we were. People have made a choice and chosen a new path to take this country forward. In that journey, many who were not politicians have become politicians, bringing a flavor of professionalism into our policy-making activities," Dr. Suriyapperuma stated.

He emphasized that the country's approach and future are considered when deciding on policy directions, rather than focusing on benefits for politicians. Dr. Suriyapperuma reiterated the government's stance on zero tolerance for corruption, which has been a key message since the beginning of their recovery journey.

Addressing the importance of continuity, Dr. Suriyapperuma noted that the government had made it clear before the elections that they would not deviate from the IMF program. "We may have our own preferences regarding how those agreements were signed, but continuity is important for the country. That's why we openly mentioned before the election that we will continue with the program and negotiations with the IMF to get the best benefit for the people and our businesses, particularly due to economic calamity," he added.
