COLOMBO (News 1st) - The first phase of the ‘Urban Green Zones’ project under the Clean Sri Lanka program was launched today at the Kelani Bridge in Peliyagoda.

The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Thuru Kapakaru Project and implemented by S-lon Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, a subsidiary of the Capital Maharaja Group.

The project coincides with Zero Waste Day and involves the planting of trees on state-owned land between the Nawaloka Roundabout and the Kelani Bridge, creating an attractive urban forest area.

The responsibility for maintaing and caring for the plants has been assigned to school students, Sunday school students, and university students.

A mobile application has also been introduced to track and update information on each tree.

The program is being implemented under the guidance of the Presidential Secretariat with the joint support of the Road Development Authority, the Urban Development Authority, and the Colombo Municipal Council.
